Comfort Keepers Presents Our Senior Home Care Caregiver Of The Month
The loving nature of our senior home caregivers is the heart of Comfort Keepers of Federal Way, WA
Our caregiver team is our most valuable asset. Those individuals who go out of their way to help seniors increase independence and lead happier, more fulfilled lives are the life force of our company. Every month, we choose a Caregiver of the Month from our outstanding senior home care staff of loving, dedicated caregivers. We like to honor those who are reliable, trustworthy, punctual, and, most of all, caring. They are those who go above and beyond for their clients and who truly have a heart for caring for others.
No matter what their specialty may be, these senior home care experts have given life to the Comfort Keepers ideal of interactive caregiving – they have transformed caregiving into an experience of hope for everyone involved. These men and women are true Comfort Keepers and we thank them for their continued dedication. We love that our caregivers are always willing to go an extra mile to put a smile on the face of their clients.
Our Caregiver of the Month for August could double as our Caregiver of the Year—Ada Allen-Harris. We get calls to the office asking for Ada as a caregiver directly; never mind hiring the agency, they just want Ada! Ada’s many years of experience in the senior care industry makes her a great advocate and caregiver for any client we assign her. She is a wonderful member of the Comfort Keepers team and we are grateful to have her as August’s Caregiver of the Month!
Ada is originally from upstate New York, and made the cross-country trek to Seattle in 1988. One of 13 siblings, she is a natural caregiver and was “always looking out for someone.” Ada’s passion is art, and she used that in her many years of experience working with seniors as an activity director and in the area of health and wellness. No matter what she was involved in, her philosophy stood: “If you’re going to do anything, do it to your best.”
Ada has been happily married for 21 years to her husband, Daniel and they have a son, Noah, who is 13. She is most proud of her triumph in raising a baby at 50 years old, and counts her growth in both her career and her family life as her greatest success. Ada spends her free time with family, mentoring at church, and exercising her gift in hospitality with family and friends. She still loves to spend time painting and drawing, as well as getting some physical exercise in playing badminton.
Caregiving holds joy for Ada because she is able to be someone’s companion; she can hear the loneliness in their hearts and make them laugh or put a smile on their face. Family is so important to her that her lifelong dream involves visiting her many siblings across the country and spend time with each of them individually. Her friends would describe her as humorous (she makes them laugh), loyal and positive.
When asked about tips and tricks (and what makes her SO good at her job!), Ada says being organized is a gift you can give a senior. Take the time to be present and to engage with them exactly where they’re at; make them feel valued and involve them in decisions so they can still be active participants in their own lives. You can tell this approach really works for Ada—her clients love her and are always happy to see her! Ada has been impacted most by being able to be what someone needs—and in return, having needs met “that I didn’t even know I had!” She definitely meets Comfort Keepers’ needs and we are truly blessed to have her as August’s Caregiver of the Month!
