Comfort Keepers Presents Our Senior Home Care Caregiver Of The Month
The loving nature of our senior home caregivers is the heart of Comfort Keepers of Federal Way, WA
Our caregiver team is our most valuable asset. Those individuals who go out of their way to help seniors increase independence and lead happier, more fulfilled lives are the life force of our company. Every month, we choose a Caregiver of the Month from our outstanding senior home care staff of loving, dedicated caregivers. We like to honor those who are reliable, trustworthy, punctual, and, most of all, caring. They are those who go above and beyond for their clients and who truly have a heart for caring for others.
No matter what their specialty may be, these senior home care experts have given life to the Comfort Keepers ideal of interactive caregiving – they have transformed caregiving into an experience of hope for everyone involved. These men and women are true Comfort Keepers and we thank them for their continued dedication. We love that our caregivers are always willing to go an extra mile to put a smile on the face of their clients.
Our Caregiver of the Month for September is a caregiver with a sweet, kind soul who uses her gentle spirit to encourage and care for her clients. She is well-loved wherever she goes and we are thankful to have her on our staff. We are proud to have Mary Gitau represent Comfort Keepers as our Caregiver of the Month!
Mary was born and raised in Kenya, and has been in the US for 19 years. She has three children, two of which she raised in Kenya where her parents lived. She has been a caregiver for 18 years and spent her time before that as a teacher for 7th/8th grade students. Her life has been marked by caring for others’ wellbeing. When she is not caregiving for us, Mary spends her time volunteering at church in different ministries and reaching out to her community.
Mary enjoys caregiving because it gives her satisfaction to care for others; her caring heart is gratified by the knowledge that at the end of the day, she took care of someone. Her greatest success has been her ability to touch the lives of others and see them changed. Her gift of encouragement is one that she uses often and well! She is most proud of her job as a caregiver because it gives her the opportunity to not only care for someone’s physical state, but also their emotional, spiritual and mental health.
Her lifelong dreams include taking ministry classes to develop her spiritual gift of encouragement. While we think no one could be better than Mary at encouraging others, it is also neat to see someone who never wants to stop learning and improving on their skills! Her friends would describe her as caring, loving and someone who has integrity; all of which are reflected in the excellent care she takes of each of her clients.
Mary has some tools and tips for other caregivers: First and foremost, listen to your client! Hear what they really like, the ways they want things done, and who they are. Unless they are in danger, do what they like. Mary feels she has been successful as a caregiver because she is loving but firm, is patient, and helps wherever she sees a need. She also stresses the importance of following HIPAA and the Plan of Care. She loves working for Comfort Keepers because of the “family” environment we have here in the office and she feels the office staff go over and above what is necessary to take care of their caregivers. We appreciate such kind words and we just say we couldn’t do it without people like Mary, our September’s Caregiver of the Month!
